The Insane Clown Posse is the greatest band of all time.

I don't care what you say or what anyone thinks.  They're the greatest band ever.
Sure, they have no talent, their music isn't innovative, they're clowns (literally and figuratively) and they're retarded wiggers.

But they just don't give a fuck and that's why I respect them.  Not giving a fuck is a trait that all artists should have.

Not satisfied?  Need more reasons? Here ya go.

Like I said, greatest band of all time.

But on a serious note, there's been a lot of talk lately, in the media, about pirating music and other intellectual property and greedy retards like Gene Simmons and others like him who think suing everybody who has ever downloaded a song, rather than changing his business model, is the solution to the problem.

First of all, all this non-sense about pirating music is robbing the artists is a lie.  Musicians make most of their money from selling concert tickets, and endorsements, and things like that.  In comparison, they make almost nothing from album sales.  Musicians only get a tiny percentage of the money made from album sales.  The majority of the money goes to the people who own the record label.

So if you download a song or album, you're taking money away from the fat cats in business suits who own the label, not the artists.

A music album is nothing more than an overpriced hunk of plastic with some pretty pictures in it and there is usually only a few good songs on an album anyway, the rest of the songs are filler songs.  There is really no good reason to buy CD's anymore.  Get with the times.  CD's are a thing of the past, we use mp3's now.  We can store thousands of songs in our pockets.  We don't need your overpriced dinosaur technology.  If people like Gene Simmons can't see that, then they're stupid and deserve to be fucked over.

Here's a Gene Simmons quote that I found especially bewildering:
"The music industry was asleep at the wheel," Simmons complained, "and didn't have the balls to sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded material. And so now we're left with hundreds of thousands of people without jobs. There's no industry."[1]
Oh boo hoo, all those millionaires won't be able to buy another private island. They're all on the streets begging for money because of people like you and me. BULLSHIT.

Besides, his quote is completely wrong. One of the reasons so many P2P applications exist is because the creator of napster was sued. The lawsuit against napster gave it a ton of publicity and when napster was shutdown a billion new P2P applications took its place. One firm, tracking filesharing statistics said that more files were traded in the month after Napster was shut down than in the previous two years Napster had existed, combined.

In short, computers and the internet and thus file-sharing, are not going away any time soon. If you can't accept it and incorporate it into your business model, then die. ADAPT OR DIE. It's evolution.

And as a bonus FU to the music industry, I'd like to share the this:

  1. I really enjoyed that Dick Dale interview. As an independent musician myself I know first hand that everything he said right there is true.

  2. That Dick Dale interview was amazing. Never thought about it that way, but he knows more about it then I, so I have to think it's true. :) Glad to see some people out there aren't getting suckered.

  6. I'm not agreeing on the thing about piracy here, I can't help but feel that there is a reason record labels exist. If there weren't a need for them to market, produce and spread the name for a band, they wouldn't exist in the first place. Obviously, the artists aren't earning much from it but still, they've chosen this situation.

Still though, that quote from Simmons is disgusting. Piracy does not kill the music industry, even if it isn't morally defendable.

As for ICP, I've always thought of them as ignorant idiots (much thanks to the miracles video), but they actually were pretty well spoken with O'Reilly. Talk about having their feet on the ground. I'm still not sure they aren't idiots, but they did do a good speech for themselves.
